One of my goals for 2018 is to knit 18 pairs of socks... ambitious, I know!
Also, I am now realizing it's nearly May and I haven't posted here since November. !! Oops. Time flies, right?!
Anyway. An update on my sock project for this year...
So far, I have 3 pairs completely done. I've started another 5 (I might be a multitasker) and I'm planning to have at least 2 of these pairs done by the end of May. Actually, I'd like to have 2 pairs done by MDSW (Maryland Sheep and Wool) so I can justify buying 2 more skeins of sock yarn...
And what you're probably wondering is A) why exactly I'm knitting so many damn socks and B) what kind of socks am I making??
Well, in answer to A) I'm not a natural sock knitter. I love how they wear and how they feel, but the thought of making two of the SAME THING kind of drives me nuts. Before this year, I've made about 6 pairs of all different kinds of socks (namely, these and these). I have one pair of socks that's lasted the past few years and I still love wearing them. However, I wanted to really stretch myself and challenge my skills so I decided to make a LOT of socks this year to get over my dislike (and a bit of fear that they won't ever fit).
So, what I've been working on and discovering are these things:
I'm still experimenting with bind-offs, ribbed edgings for the cuff, and leg height, so I'll post my thoughts about those when I've made a few more pairs. But for now, these are my current faves:
I've had the privilege of teaching a handful of both new and veteran sock knitters my favorite tips, techniques, and adjustments to toe-up socks over the past few months. I love getting to share these tips and watch how each knitter makes her socks her own. I've created a custom-fit sock recipe, and maybe I'll share that sometime soon...
For now, gotta finish those 2 pairs of socks in time for May 5. Will I make it?!
Watch for photo updates and in-progress shots on Instagram, and thanks for reading!
happiest of knitting,
Hi, I'm Emily, nice to meet you!
