I'm Emily, and it's nice to meet you. I've been knitting since I was really little, but only seriously for the past ten years or so. I love crochet almost as much as knitting, and I also enjoy spinning, weaving, dyeing, and felting.
I live in Baltimore, Maryland with my husband and cat. My cat, Curious (aka The Moose), often graces the photos of my Instagram feed, so if you like cute cats, too, check it out. He's pretty fluffy and adorable, if I say so myself.
Not much sweater weather in Maryland as our weather can be quite temperamental, but one day I'd love to live somewhere cold all the time... more days in the year to wear all those handknits sounds dreamy!
What else... I love dark chocolate, good, strong espresso, and frogs. I have my BA in French Language & Literature and Philosophy.
I love to knit with small yarn (dk and smaller!), but I try to balance out my designs so they aren't so tedious. Wool blends are my absolute favorite. And anything with silk...
Emily Connell Designs has been my passion for almost ten years now and I'm very fortunate to be able to pursue what I love. I write and publish patterns that focus on new techniques, interesting constructions, and flattering silhouettes for the adventurous knitter. I aim to focus on familiar (or unfamiliar!) techniques with a modern twist. Some describe my style as a combination of classic shapes and lines with a twist of modern elegance.
I find inspiration in many things, but most often my travels. My husband and I enjoy traveling both in the States and abroad, and I often find inspiration strikes while I'm away. I also draw inspiration for my designs from nature and architecture.
I teach classes at Black Sheep Yarn Shop in Cockeysville, Maryland. Come join us!
